Installing and Using CampaignManager 2009 - Configure CampaignManager

Note: This is the Quick Start Guide and is not an exhaustive help resource on CampaignManager.  For more thorough help, just press F1 within the CampaignManager Application.

Specifying the CM Service Address in CampaignManager

  1. In CampaignManager, open the Options dialog by clicking Tools/Options. The following dialog is displayed:

  2. Set the Service Address/IP to the machine on which you will run the CM Service. In this example, the CM Service is located on a machine called ‘avoca’ . Note that this must be a fully qualified URL if your clients will be accessing the service over the internet. This would be ‘avoca.corp.com’ or 213.214.216.217 for example if we planned to have the system operate over the internet.

Setting the Manifest Drop Folder in CampaignManager

When you publish a campaign, the program creates a manifest file which contains all the information required to enable the CM Service to process the campaign and make it available to the targeted CM Players / Remote Display Devices.   The CampaignManager will push this file to a certain location, where the CM Service picks it up. This location is known as the “Campaign Manifest Drop Folder”.

If you intend to run the CM Service on a separate machine it is recommended that the Manifest Drop Folder be located on the same machine as the CM Service.

If you wish to publish your Campaigns to more than one CM service you can add extra Manifest Drop Folders in CampaignManager. To open the Manifest Drop Folder options go the main menu, Edit, Manifest Drop Folder.

In order to configure the CM Player, we must now open the settings file we created using CampaignManager.

Creating a Remote Display Device entry in CampaignManager

You must create a Remote Display Device entry in CampaignManager. This entry serves as a logical representation of your display device within the application.  To view your Remote Display Devices, click on the Remote Display Device tab in CampaignManager. (When you create a new project, this list will be empty) You will need to create an entry for each device you wish to target.

Several Remote Display Devices can share the same entry. This is useful if you wish to have the same content displayed on several machines and are not required to be able to address them individually.

  1. To create a Remote Display Device entry for your display press Ctrl+R or click the screen icon in the toolbar.

  2. The following Dialogue appears:

  3. Give the device the name ‘My Display Device.

  4. Now click on the ‘Create Settings File button. This creates the settings file (extension rddxml) that you will use shortly to configure your CM Player. CampaignManager will prompt you to open the folder into which the configuration file has been saved.

  5. Navigate to the file and copy it to a location that is accessible from the machine you intend to use as your CM Player/Display Device, such as a network share or a floppy disk.

In due course, we will use this file to configure the CM Player application. Using the CM Player Configuration tool, we will open this file and load the appropriate paths and Identification information enabling the CM Player to communicate with the CM Service.
